“You did what?” Sara screamed over the phone. “Wait a minute.”

Asia lay on her bed, just out of the shower and still glowing from an hour of the greatest lovemaking she’d ever experienced. Part of her felt the need to brag when she called Sara to share her latest accomplishment. She expected to hear the cheers, and if she was present, they’d be hugging and high-fiving.

“Asia, you there?”

“Naomi?” Asia realized that Sara had done a conference call.

“Oh, I’m here, too, sister, dear.”

“Athena, aren’t you teaching or something?”

“This was worth taking a break,” her sister replied.

“And I’m here, too,” Denise piped up.

“No way, Sara, you’re crazy. This was so not worth a conference call. What if it was supposed to be confidential?”

“Nothing is confidential in this group,” Denise replied. “Everyone knew my stuff with gambling.”

“All for your own good.”

“Let’s get back to Asia. I don’t have much time,” Athena insisted.

“It was unbelievably fantastic.” Asia grinned. Her body retained the memory of his touch. She couldn’t help but giggle.

“Are you insane? How could you do that?” Naomi asked.

“You told me to have fun. I had fun.”

“But that’s not what’s happening here. You fell for this guy,” Naomi accused.

“No, I didn’t.” Asia sat up, plumping the pillows behind her. She clenched the phone between her ear and shoulder. Her sorors, as usual, misinterpreted the obvious. “You told me to be wild and crazy.”

“But you don’t have a crazy bone in your body. Even if you tried, you couldn’t be freaky.” Her twin had to lay it out bluntly.

“So the only reason that you would attempt to be freaky is if you fell for this guy.” Sara tutted on the phone.

“Don’t you think it’s too soon?” Athena asked.

“Maybe you forgot when I broke up with Jack, but I know it was a year ago.”

“And you’re not pining over him?” Denise asked.

“No.” By the time she’d broken up with him, she had already dismissed him from her mind. “I don’t need a man to make me feel better. We enjoy each other’s company. We have breakfast, talk about what we’re going to do that day, and about how his daughter is doing.”

“Whoa. Stop everything. Breakfast? He’s staying there?

Daughter? Are you playing stepmother?” Naomi’s agitation had kicked in.

“I knew we should have gone with her. She’s like a babe in the woods. This man had better not try to play any games. I will kick his butt if he hurts her,” Sara declared.

“Any pictures of him?”

“Nope. And I’m not sending one.”

“You’re mean. Just use your cell phone to take a photo. All these tantalizing details of male sexiness with no photo to support the claims,” Sara complained. “How are we going to meet him?”

“Let’s have a conference call with him,” Naomi ordered.

Asia giggled. “That will never happen.” She sobered. “Besides, this may not last.”

“If it’s meant to happen, it will,” Athena advised in her usual matter-of-fact way. “And if he lets you go without a fight, then he’s fool.”

Asia appreciated her twin’s protective nature. “Maybe I’m the one who’ll let him go.
